CV:
Barry Read works as a Concept Artist and 3-Dimensional Designer and has been involved in a wide range of productions in New Zealand and offshore.
He is a highly skilled traditional draftsman. He also has a good knowledge of materials and finishes and is a quick and accurate model-maker.
Barry studied Fine Art before an initial career painting. He became interested in all elements of 3-D design at BBCtv in the eighties. He returned to NZ to experiment with - and build - two off-grid houses. In the 90s while working with John Britten he became interested in rail and designed a rail/road crossing apparatus, Vu-trak, in the late nineties.
He returned to uni in 2009 to study industrial design and progress the design detail for a self-generating electric-drive railcar, Cooltrainz. (See FutureRailNZ link above). While at uni he also designed a post-disaster shelter called H2S (help to shelter) which was a finalist in the James Dyson Design Awards.

'News of You' by the band 1000 Mexicans. Shown at ICA's 'Rock week' and on
BBC's 'Whistle Test'.
Pre 1980: Studied at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland before painting and exhibiting
over a seven year period. (See separate cv on the art link above.) Worked for
TVNZ design in Christchurch for two years before moving to London.
