THE FLY - Christchurch New City Hub - response to Feb 22 earthquake
After the destructive 'quake I worked with Warwick Bell, from Fabric Structure Systems, on developing this concept for a safe public environment - called 'The Fly' because, like a tent fly, it moderates the environment beneath it. Being a tensile-fabric structure it would be a safe environment for Cantabrians nervous of traditional structures. Ground-source heating would further improve the environment in the enclosed buildings. The Fly would also allow for new, lightweight building systems within its spaces and would incorporate rain-collection and above-ground storage, new solar technologies, on-site treatment of waste producing fuel and compost and become a hub for clean transport. We were interviewed on TVNZ's 'Close Up' about this idea on 5 April 2011.
